Genuine United States Mint – 1892-1915 Silver Barber Half Dollar (J0522)
The Silver Liberty Head Half Dollar is popularly called the Barber Dollar after its designer, Charles E. Barber, Chief engraver of the mint. Barber used the same design on the Dime and Quarter in circulation at the same time. When the last of these coins rolled off the press, it was the last time different denomination coinage shared the same design. It also was the last time all U.S. Mint coins were designed by mint engravers. None of the three designs replacing Barber’s Liberty Head was created by a mint employee. Barber vehemetly fought the use of outside help in redesigning the coins, but was unsuccessful.
