Description

Genuine United States Mint  1916-1947 BU Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar  (J0522)

The Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar is among the most beautiful, graceful and symbolic of all U.S. coin designs. A.A.Weinman depicted liberty advancing toward the dawn of a new day, her hand outstretched in greeting. She carries a bundle of laurel and oak sprigs and is dressed in a garment representing the U. S. Flag. Through Miss Liberty appears on most U.S. Mint coins, the figure can be traced back at least 2,500 years to the Roman Godess Libertas. Her temple once served as the first public library in Ancient Rome. The Liberty cap goes back further to freed slaves in Egypt who wore a distintive cap to show their status.
