This 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar is the coveted first year of issue and the only year produced of .900 Fine Silver for general circulation. The new design was introduced immediately following the assassination of President JohnF. Kennedy. Special legislation was enacted to create the new Half Dollar; It was one of the speediest pieces of government action in history. Normally no change can be made on American coins for at least 25 years. The Benjamin Franklin design was replaced by the Kennedy Half dollar after only 15 years. The coin is in strong demand not in this country, but around the world. It is one of the most popular coins of all time.
